The other day, I was brainstorming ways to get people to sign up as my referrals so I could get a free Mac mini. Sure, it’s a pyramid scheme, but it netted me an iPod, a flatscreen monitor/TV and a Dell PC (which I sold for $500) this summer. But posting the referral link, as I had done in the past, just wasn’t cutting it this time — everyone is fed up with these things and refuses to sign up. That’s where my cleverness kicked in.
I’ve noticed that Livejournal has more than its fair share of camwhores (à la Diary-x’s perplexing number of multiple personalities), and said camwhores commonly post Paypal donation links amid a string of half-naked photos, promising more revealing shots for those with generous pockets. So, I thought, why not pretend to be a hot semi-naked girl?
Which is exactly what I did. With Google’s help, I found some pictures of a faceless girl with an attractive body who happened to be removing her clothes. The tamest few of these I posted in some exhibitionist communities, asking for people to help me get a Mac mini in exchange for more pictures (which I have, and actually will send out, making everyone a winner). You might argue that this is not an ethical thing to do, but I’m not concerned about that.
So far it has been a limited success, but the most interesting thing happened because I forgot to turn off the option that e-mails all comments to me. In the span of a few minutes I received dozens of responses, and more are still trickling in. In the name of entertainment, here are all of those comments in chronological order:
