personal record

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

As it turns out, I was suckered into running a race a week before the one I had originally signed up for. So at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, I found myself in a crowd of several hundred people in Fair Park (home of the State Fair of Texas!), awating my very first 5K.

Would you like to see how I did? Of course you would. Click here.

Sadly, there was no photography team taking pictures of each participant, so you’ll just have to imagine me all sweaty and wearing shorts.

But on a brighter note: no vomit!

I have recently started running.

This is a bad idea because:

  • I am not good at running
  • Running shoes cost $90
  • Running socks cost $10
  • You still get blisters if you’re wearing the right shoes and socks
  • Nipple chafing
  • Texas is hot
    • Seriously, it’s still way too hot in the afternoon
  • Hills exist
  • I am prone to horrible sunburns
  • Sunscreen in one’s eyes is not pleasant
  • Sweat in any location is not pleasant
  • More showers and more frequent laundry are necessary
  • Occasionally you’ll run through a cloud of gnats
    • And they’ll stick to you

      • ON YOUR FACE
  • Sometimes running too long without stopping results in vomit
  • But despite all of these reasons, most of which are valid, I am running a 5K in two weeks. And I am going to suuuuucccckkkkk. And it’s “only” 3.1 miles, as I’m often told.

Prediction: 30 minutes (±1), followed by throwing up, followed by nap.
